Is an innovative localised surface hardening process characterised by high quality and versatility, destined to substitute most existing heat treatment techniques for surface hardening

Laser heat treatment is an innovative localised surface hardening process characterised by high quality and versatility, destined to substitute most existing heat treatment techniques for surface hardening. With this process, it is possible to quickly treat components of any size, weight or complexity, including difficult-to-access surfaces, with contained thermal distortion and no necessity for cooling fluids.

Nextema has many years of experience with laser surface treatment over a vast array of applications in a wide range of industrial sectors.

Process potential

Extremely limited geometric and dimensional changes, even for complex components
Online process temperature monitoring treatment with an optical pyrometer.
Treatment of surfaces that would be inaccessible with induction or other hardening processes
Constant hardened depth throughout the entire treated zone.
Real-time control of treatment width
Constant hardness throughout the treated thickness

Equipment

Nextema has access to a cell with anthropomorphic robot and rotating table for 3D laser processing, including:
Motoman-Yaskawa HP-20 anthropomorphic robot with 6 controlled axes;
Rotating Motoman-Yaskawa VMS-1000 SX table with maximum load of 1000 kg;
Laserline LDF 1000-3000 diode laser source with fibre beam transport;
Two-colour Mergenthaler Lascon pyrometer;
Laserline focusing head with variable spot up to 2.5 mm x 55 mm;
